Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Wisdom teeth generally erupt into the mouth by the age of 18 years and may even extend upto 22 years or even later. They may erupt into the oral cavity depending on the space available or may remain in the bone unerupted. Their eruption into the oral cavity depends on many factors like the space available, the position of the tooth, early shedding of the other teeth.

The gum overlying the tooth may get infected causing severe pain and discomfort radiating to the jaws, ear, temple region.. The wisdom teeeth, if they erupt in an abnormal position cause changes in the temporomandibular joint leading to problems over a period of time and also can damage to the adjacent teeth. The abnormal position of the teeth may cause difficulty in brushing and maintaining good hygiene of the teeth.

In CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC removal of wisdom tooth  is done in a highly sterilized environment. Prior to the removal, an X-Ray evaluation and the possible complications are discussed with the patient.

Simple Extractions

1

Grossly decayed and irreparable tooth are indicated for removal. This procedure is performed by Dental Surgeon(CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC) under local anesthesia.

Cyst Removals

2

Cyst is a circumscribed area of infection which can develop in our jaws due to developmental defect or dental infection. This condition needs surgical intervention under local/general anesthesia.

Oral Tumour

Oral tumour is the irregular growth or mutation of hard or soft oral tissues in the mouth. It mostly occurs in elderly person. Oral tumour can be classified as benign or malignant tumours. Malignant tumour is commonly known as oral cancer, which can spread to other parts of the body and can be fatal. Therefore, if there is any uncommon manifestation appearing in the oral tissue, consult your doctor or dentist immediately for a detailed examination and seek appropriate treatment.

TMJ Pain

3

Temporomandibular joint is a complex joint that helps in the movement of the lower jaw and it performs various functions like chewing, speech. For the normal functioning of the joint there has to be a balance between the muscles, bony components and the intervening disc. When the balance is lost it can cause painful conditions where performing even regular functions like speech and chewing are extremely difficult.

Some of the common symptoms of the condition are pain in the region of the joint, pain on opening the jaws, tenderness over the lower jaw especially over the angle, clicking sound on opening the jaws, restricted movement of the jaw, headaches, easy fatigue ability of the jaw muscles, muscle soreness of the chewing muscles.

Every condition should be evaluated from a clinical standpoint and a treatment plan formulated accordingly. The treatment varies from simply restoring the teeth, reshaping the teeth, removing some problematic teeth like third molars, correcting malocclusion, providing adequate rest to the joint, unlearning some deleterious habits, analgesics and the like to more complex treatment like splints to reduce the load over the joints.

We, at CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC follow a very scientifically proven protocol in an approach to treat these conditions. We follow an approach which is simple initially and based on the outcome progress towards more complex treatment options.

We at CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC treat the patients having pain in TMJ or Trigeminal Neuralgia with ACUPUNCTURE, WHICH IS DRUGLESS THERAPY, DEPENDING UPON THE SEVERITY OF DISEASE.

Digital Dental X- RAY

Dental X-rays are a useful diagnostic tool when helping your dentist detect damage and disease not visible during a regular dental exam. How often X-rays should be taken depends on your present oral health, your age, your risk for disease, and any signs and symptoms of oral disease. For example, children may require X-rays more often than adults because their teeth and jaws are still developing and their teeth are more likely to be affected by tooth decay than those of adults. Your dentist will review your history, examine your mouth and then decide whether or not you need X-rays.We at CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC are using Digital dental x- ray sensor in clinic for diagnosis. We are also using intra oral cameras for diagnosis & keeping the image records of patients before & after treatment.

Gum Treatment

SCALING & POLISHING

Scaling removes the deposits and stains present on the teeth which cannot be removed by brushing. It also removes trapped food particles and plaque containing millions of bacteria which cause tooth decay and gum diseases.

At CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC, we believe scaling and polishing in hygiene for oral health, so it is done using an ultrasonic scaler which removes deposits present on the teeth, later polishing is done with prophylactic paste to give highly polished tooth surface which doesn’t allow plaque formation. Regular scaling and polishing helps teeth and gums healthy.

1

Deep Scaling

2

Root planning (non-surgical periodontal therapy) is the most effective treatment for Periodontitis, a condition where tartar builds up inside pockets created by receding gums. Tartar thus formed cannot be removed by conventional methods and can eventually lead to loss of tooth . Root planing is a specialized skill involving scaling of the root of the tooth.

Flap Surgery

3

It’s a surgical procedure used to treat advanced periodontitis that cannot be treated with anti biotics or by scaling and planing.
In advanced periodontis, the bones, gums and tissues that support are attacked by infection and are gradually destroyed. Flap procedure involves the cleaning of the roots of the teeth and methods such as bone grafts, soft tissue grafts or Guided tissue regeneration to repair the damaged tissues and bones.

Bone Graft

4

Bone grafting is a safe and highly successful procedure that involves the “building up” or adding bone to the jaw by using your own natural bone from another location and/or by using donor, processed or synthetic bone materials. Often the new bone can be obtained from inside the mouth.
Your implants will be placed after the grafted bone has fused or become a strong, integrated part of the existing bone. The amount of time the integration takes varies depending on the location of the graft and the density of the bone. It may take three or more months.

Dental Implant

A dental implant is actually a replacement for the root or roots of a tooth. Like tooth roots, dental implants are secured in the jawbone and are not visible once surgically placed. They are used to secure crowns (the parts of teeth seen in the mouth), bridgework or dentures by a variety of means. They are made of titanium, which is lightweight, strong and biocompatible, which means that it is not rejected by the body. Titanium and titanium alloys are the most widely used metals in both dental and other bone implants, such as orthopedic joint replacements. Dental implants have the highest success rate of any implanted surgical device.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Generally speaking, if you have lost teeth you are a candidate for dental implants. It is important that you are in good health, however, as there are some conditions and diseases that can affect whether dental implants are right for you. For example, uncontrolled diabetes, cancer, radiation to the jaws, smoking, alcoholism, or uncontrolled periodontal (gum) disease may affect whether dental implants will fuse to your bone. It is important to let your dental surgeon know all about your medical status (past and present) together with all medications you are taking, whether prescribed, alternative (herbal) or over-the-counter.

2

Where and how implants are placed requires a detailed assessment of your overall stomato-gnathic system (“stoma” – mouth; “gnathic” – jaws), within which the teeth function. This will necessitate compiling records that include study models of your mouth and bite, and specialized radiographs (x-rays), which may include 3D scans known as computerized tomograms (CT scans). Planning with the help of computer imaging ensures that dental implants can be placed in exactly the right position in the bone.

We are using the best quality IMPLANTS in our clinic ( CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC ) at affordable prices, as compared with the foreign market.

OUR TEAM OF DOCTORS WILL GIVE THEIR BEST GUIDANCE TO PATIENT ,WITH FULL TRANSPRANCEY.

Crown And Bridge

Bridgesand crowns are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants by a dentist .Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth or cover an implant. Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if you’re missing one or more teeth.

We are using the best materials in our clinic maintaining the international standard. Permanent crowns can be made from porcelain-fused-to-metal, all resin, or all ceramic, zirconia, stainless steel, all metal (such as gold or another alloy).

A dental crown may be needed in the following situations:

  1. To protect a weak tooth (for instance, from decay) from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
  2. To restore an alreadybroken or a tooth that has been severely worn down
  3. To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t a lot of tooth left
  4. To hold a dental bridgein place
  5. To cover misshapened or severely discolored teeth
  6. To cover a dental implant
  7. To make a cosmetic modification

For children, a crown may be used on primary (baby) teeth in order to:

  • Save a tooth that has been so damaged by decay that it can’t support a filling.
  • Protect the teeth of a child at high risk for tooth decay, especially when a child has difficulty keeping up with daily oral hygiene.
  • Decrease the frequency of general anesthesia for children unable because of age, behavior, or medical history to fully cooperate with the requirements of properdental care.

Root Canal Treatment

Inside the tooth, under the white enamel and a hard layer called the dentin, is a soft tissue called the pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue, and helps to grow the root of your tooth during development. In a fully developed tooth, the tooth can survive without the pulp because the tooth continues to be nourished by the tissues surrounding it.modern endodontic treatment is very similar to having a routine filling and usually can be completed in one or two appointments, depending on the condition of your tooth and your personal circumstances. You can expect a comfortable experience during and after your appointment.

  • Saving the natural tooth with root canal treatment has many advantages:
  • Efficient chewing
  • Normal biting force and sensation
  • Natural appearance
  • Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain

1

Root canal or endodontic treatment—treatment done to the inside of the tooth—is necessary when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, faulty crowns, or a crack or chip in the tooth. In addition, trauma to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.

During root canal or endodontic treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling for protection. After restoration, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth.

Endodontic treatment helps you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that corrects teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, are at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder and back pain. Teeth that are crooked or not in the right place can also detract from one’s appearance.

The benefits of orthodontic treatment include a healthier mouth, a more pleasing appearance, and teeth that are more likely to last a lifetime.

How do I Know if I Need Orthodontics?
Only your dentist or orthodontist can determine whether you can benefit from orthodontics. We at CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC have Specialist in the field of Orthodontics with experience of more than 18 years.Based on diagnostic tools that include a full medical and dental health history, a clinical exam, plaster models of your teeth, and special X-rays and photographs, an orthodontist or dentist can decide whether orthodontics are recommended, and develop a treatment plan that’s right for you.

If you have any of the following, you may be a candidate for orthodontic treatment:

  • Overbite, sometimes called “buck teeth”— where the upper front teeth lie too far forward (stick out) over the lower teeth
  • Underbite— a “bulldog” appearance where the lower teeth are too far forward or the upper teeth too far back
  • Crossbite— when the upper teeth do not come down slightly in front of the lower teeth when biting together normally
  • Open bite— space between the biting surfaces of the front and/or side teeth when the back teeth bite together
  • Misplaced midline— when the center of your upper front teeth does not line up with the center of your lower front teeth
  • Spacing— gaps, or spaces, between the teeth as a result of missing teeth or teeth that do not “fill up” the mouth
  • Crowding— when there are too many teeth for the dental ridge to accommodate

Fixed appliances include:

  • Braces— the most common fixed appliances, braces consist of bands, wires and/or brackets. Bands are fixed around the teeth or tooth and used as anchors for the appliance, while brackets are most often bonded to the front of the tooth. Arch wires are passed through the brackets and attached to the bands. Tightening the arch wire puts tension on the teeth, gradually moving them to their proper position. Braces are usually adjusted monthly to bring about the desired results, which may be achieved within a few months to a few years. Today’s braces are smaller, lighter and show far less metal than in the past. They come in bright colors for kids as well as clear styles preferred by many adults.
  • Special fixed appliances— used to control thumb sucking or tongue thrusting, these appliances are attached to the teeth by bands. Because they are very uncomfortable during meals, they should be used only as a last resort.
  • Fixed space maintainers— if a baby tooth is lost prematurely, a space maintainer is used to keep the space open until the permanent tooth erupts. A band is attached to the tooth next to the empty space, and a wire is extended to the tooth on the other side of the space.

Removable appliances include:

  • Aligners— an alternative to traditional braces for adults, serial aligners are being used by an increasing number of orthodontists to move teeth in the same way that fixed appliances work, only without metal wires and brackets. Aligners are virtually invisible and are removed for eating, brushing and flossing.

1

  • Removable space maintainers— these devices serve the same function as fixed space maintainers. They’re made with an acrylic base that fits over the jaw, and have plastic or wire branches between specific teeth to keep the space between them open.
  • Jaw repositioning appliances— also called splints, these devices are worn on either the top or lower jaw, and help train the jaw to close in a more favorable position. They may be used for temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ).
  • Lip and cheek bumpers— these are designed to keep the lips or cheeks away from the teeth. Lip and cheek muscles can exert pressure on the teeth, and these bumpers help relieve that pressure.
  • Palatal expander— a device used to widen the arch of the upper jaw. It is a plastic plate that fits over the roof of the mouth. Outward pressure applied to the plate by screws force the joints in the bones of the palate to open lengthwise, widening the palatal area.
  • Removable retainers— worn on the roof of the mouth, these devices prevent shifting of the teeth to their previous position. They can also be modified and used to prevent thumb sucking.
  • Headgear— with this device, a strap is placed around the back of the head and attached to a metal wire in front, or face bow. Headgear slows the growth of the upper jaw, and holds the back teeth where they are while the front teeth are pulled back.

Kids Dentistry

Milk teeth are as important as the permanent teeth. Milk teeth help to maintain sufficient space for the erupting permanent teeth. To avoid early loss of milk teeth due to decay, children should be assessed periodically and any detected tooth decay must be removed carefully and tooth restored.

Crowns

1

If a need arises for root canal treatment for the milk teeth, readymade steel crowns are used to restore the tooth to maintain the space in the jaws and also to get the form and function of the teeth back.

Rampant Caries

2

A strong treatment with natural look.
These types of caries occur suddenly, which spreads to adjacent tooth, causing pain faster than normal decay. These cavities are soft and yellowish brown in color. The uniqueness of this decay is the decay spread to upper as well as lower teeth with short duration. Usually diet analysis & modification of diet by reducing the amount of frequency of sucrose consumption is done.

Nursing Bottle Caries

3

Prevention is better than cure
Nursing bottle caries is the primary type of tooth decay observed in infants. Bottle feeding, especially nocturnal feeding or when child are allowed to sleep with bottle in their mouth, leads to nursing bottle caries. During sleep there is reduction in salivary flow causing milk stagnation in the mouth leading to tooth decay/cavities. These cavities will appear as white spots on the tooth especially seen in upper teeth. Over a period of time, these cavities will be formed which appears as yellow, brown & black stains. This is an alarming sign because the disease is widespread, among young children and if untreated can lead to early loss of teeth due to decay. Proper oral hygiene, feeding pattern & dietary practices to be followed by the caretaker to avoid nursing bottle caries.

In CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC,we advise the parent to have the first dental visit for the child ideally after the child’s first birthday. During the first visit, caries risk assessment is done for the child to prevent dental decay. If any white spots are found parents are educated how to clean their child’s teeth with fluoride toothpaste, fluoride varnish is applied by the dentist to avoid cavity formation.

Fluoride Application

4

Fluoride Application is used to prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks produced from the bacteria and prevent plaque formation on the tooth. These treatments contain more amount of fluoride than tooth pastes and mouth rinses.

At CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC, we believe in preventive dentistry thereby promoting the use of fluoride which is applied either as gel, foam or varnish. Varnishes are painted to the teeth whereas foams are put into trays which are applied to the teeth for one to four minutes and gels can either be painted or applied via trays. This fluoride treatment is used to minimize the development of dental cavities.

Pit & Fissures

5

Usually dental cavities are found in the back region of the teeth for children because deep and/or uncoalesced pits and fissures are present which are impossible to clean, due to tooth anatomy which is directly related to shape and depth of the pit and fissures on the chewing surface of back teeth where most cavities are found.

At CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC, we believe in preventive dentistry thereby promoting the use of sealants which are extremely effective in reducing the incidence of pit-and-fissure cavities. Sealants are made of clear or shaded polymers applied to the teeth surfaces and they attribute to the physical obstruction of these pit and grooves to keep them cavity free

Scaling

6

The professional cleaning of teeth is called oral prophylaxis and is carried out in two phases – Scaling and Polishing . This treatment protects the gums from infectious diseases that could lead to loss of teeth. Scaling removes plaque, tartar and stains that cannot be removed by regular brushing from the exposed and un exposed surfaces of the teeth. Polishing makes the surfaces of the teeth smooth. This treatment results in clean and smooth teeth.

At CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC, we use Ultrasonic latest generation Scalers that use advanced technology in the state of the art control module to reduce sensitivity after scaling. We use only filtered clean water for scaling procedure

BRUSH YOUR TEETH TWICE A DAY, TO AVOID MAJORITY OF DENTAL PROBLEMS.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Dentistry is no longer just a case of filling and taking out teeth. Nowadays many people turn to cosmetic dentistry, or ‘aesthetic dentistry’, as a way of improving their appearance. They do this in the same way they might use cosmetic surgery or even a new hairstyle. The treatments can be used to straighten, lighten, reshape and repair teeth. Cosmetic treatments include veneers, crowns, bridges, tooth-coloured fillings, implants and tooth whitening .

Teeth Whitening

Whitening of teeth now a days is a very common dental procedure. Teeth Whitening is done in CHOPRA DENTAL CLINIC in single sitting only.

Veneer

1

Veneers are thin slices of porcelain. These are precisely made to fit over the visible surface of your front teeth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail.Veneers are an ideal way of treating discoloured or unsightly teeth, closing gaps between front teeth, or repairing chips and cracks.

Fillings

1

For over 150 years standard fillings have been made out of a silvery-grey material called ‘amalgam’. This is considered one of the strongest and longest-lasting materials for fillings. However, many people find it unattractive and some are concerned about possible health risks.

White fillings are now a popular alternative to amalgam fillings. The new dental materials mean it is much easier to find a perfect match for the shade of a particular tooth. In most cases, it is quite impossible to see that the tooth even has a filling. Sometimes white filling material can be used to cover unsightly marks on teeth, in a similar way to veneers.

When a tooth is badly broken or heavily filled, the dentist may need to crown or ‘cap’ it to restore its appearance and strength.

Teeth can be straightened with orthodontics (braces). This is usually done during the teenage years, when the jaws are going through a period of growth. However, many adults also have treatment to straighten their crooked teeth or to improve their appearance. The treatment can take much longer in adults and is therefore more expensive.

Now a days clear aligners ( invisible braces) are used , which need to be worn all day and gradually move your teeth into a new position for proper alignment of teeth.

1

Alternatives to orthodontics

Cosmetic contouring can be used to improve the appearance of teeth. It is ideal if you have irregular-shaped or slightly crowded teeth.

However, in contouring the teeth a small amount of enamel would be lost. Contouring can also be used to improve the shape and appearance of your gums. These treatments are not recommended for young children.

1

Tooth Jewellery

Tooth jewellery involves sticking small jewels onto the teeth using dental cement. They should be fitted by a dentist, who can easily remove them if necessary. It is important to keep the area around the jewel clean, as plaque can easily build up around it and you will be more likely to get TOOTH DECAY.
